Breaking News – We have great pleasure in announcing a real scoop for The Blue Note with Soul Deep and The Diva’s reunion playing at our club. This is the second live band that we are bringing to all of our patrons and I don’t think you are going to be disappointed. George Grignon is the leader of the band and is responsible for putting together the gigs, here is his story on how it all came together.
SoulDeep Fusion Trio & SoulDeep Collective are two incredibly exciting but quite distinct musical entities.
The SoulDeep Trio consist of George Grignon on drums, Ricky Campbell on electric bass and Matt Ratcliffe on a plethora of keyboards, together this band creates a grooving gumbo of jazz & funk which has enthralled sold out audiences across the UK.
The SoulDeep Collective consist of the SoulDeep Fusion Trio augmented by 4 of the finest musicians around to create a funk/soul big band that covers all the funk, soul and R&B classics of the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s.
George Grignon put his first band together in 1979 named Stellar Force and performed a debut gig in 1980 at the Derby Assembly Rooms in front of a sold out crowd of 1500 people, the concert was billed the “Funk Festival”.
31 years later, George Grignon’s current band the SoulDeep Collective performed a sold out concert at the Derby Dance Centre (Déda) billed as “SoulDeep & The Diva’s” which featured some of the UK’s finest female vocal talents.
The Blue Note concert on Saturday 26 November 2016 is a joint celebration of both of these historic concerts combining the big band funk of the “Funk Festival” and the sassy soulful vocals of the “Diva’s” hence SoulDeep & The Diva’s!
For this concert the Diva’s will feature Tanisha “Rose” Vincent who is without doubt the most talented young female vocalist in the UK today, she is joined by the incredible Donna Sparkle and the exciting Karen Dutton-Moore. These ladies will be performing classics by Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, Cheryl Lynn, Jean Carne, Faith Evans, The S.O.S band, Jocelyn Brown, Gwen McCrae, Patrice Rushen and many, more more.
